Drabble: Late Rescues Are Better Than None
Another Alchemy (and not FMA) originalfic drabble. Part of a series: Meeting, Courtship, Visitors, Laws of Inheritance, Paranoia, Survive Contact, Ashes, this one, perhaps another and perhaps not, and then the first of this turned-into-a-series that I wrote (but last in internal chronology), Wedding Oaths.
EDIT: Part of a series: Meeting, Courtship, Visitors, Laws of Inheritance, Paranoia, Survive Contact, Ashes, Late Rescues Are Better Than None, Incentive, and Wedding Oaths.

Late Rescues Are Better Than None

"Was this your doing?" Her voice was a rough croak. He marked the greenish froth on her lips, the acrid scent of her breath.

"No." He pulled a vial out. "Purgatorie?"

She didn't thank him, but her muddy eyes focused past shock.

He held her hair in a hand-- one of hers pressed against the carriage while the other held her dress closed as she bent over. (He pressed his free hand against his mouth. Tried not to listen.)

He gave her a handkerchief after, and held the carriage-door.

"I'll be bleeding soon," she rasped.

"I'll have the cushions replaced."

This HAS to be expanded. All of the drabbles lead up to a major story - the Lord Alchemist and his half-blood herb-witch wife against the obviously villainous brother. The power struggle. The possible romance. The downfall. Heck - there's a trilogy or more here!

I agree with Mom! This would really make a nice full-on novel.

Not sure it'd be as good, without the bits in-between the snapshots being stuff that people can fill in with their own heads, though...

Maybe sometime I'll use it as an "outline."

Yeah, I got the idea, but there is also the movie (big screen, technicolor - IMEX!) Gimme the cinema version!

*snort*

Mom, you need to click "reply to this" under the post you're replying to -- otherwise it gets the threads out of order.

Picky, picky, picky. It showed up on my email. I just didn't notice I'd mis-clicked.
Sorry 'bout that.

Yes, well, I also want to see more of this, and a full-grown expansion of same.

Must I bat my eyelashes at you?

But...but...but... Edward and Jay have dibs!

Maybe I can try to figure things out sometime inbetween the drabbles. Sort of like an outline. Do me good to try to work with an outline, like as not, but it'd probably take a lot of encouragement to keep me sticking to it. Story! Done! Dunneedanymore!

Can I encourage too - as in poke you with a stick frequently? Love, Mom

Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha. Unlikely. I don't have the undivided attention to put on it. Six year old and all.

Either the story will demand that I write "the rest" or I'll do a few more drabbles and leave it at that.
