Drabble: An Unexpected Complication
The author reserves the right to let the matter sit. Right Here. For quite some time.

An Unexpected Complication

She held her knife to the young man's throat, and slid 'round the potion vial with her other hand. "Drink that."

He took it, slowly, and sniffed. "Where'd you get this?"

"My employer wanted me to drink it. I palmed it. I can guess what it is."

"Clever." He sounded admiring. Then, without hesitation, he drank. "What shall I do now, m'l-- m'lord?"

She didn't think he'd palmed it... Still, something he'd not normally do. Something crazy. She wore men's clothing convincingly enough, so... "Kiss me, noble's son."

He turned, beaming.

After, she vaguely hoped he'd realized she wasn't male.

(snickers) A little problem, yes . . .

The number of little problems that are layered into that hundred words make me snicker unbearably. However, I'm going to leave those layers right where they're, er, lying, and read through the not-quite-200K-but-when-did-it-ever-get-smaller-in-playtest-huh? that I have right underneath my browser window.

First.

AAARGH! Do Kessa and Iathor have a daughter? You KNOW you are going to have to flesh this out ...some time.

Sometime.

Not a daughter, no.

In the way of semi-feudal, patriarchal cultures, though, the ideal is to end up with a daughter-in-law or two.

Oh, the 'm'lady' fooled me - I had Kessa in there somewhere; this looks to be either Iontho or Darues' adventure sometime in the future, or one of THEIR kids. Omigod - hurry up and edit, so you can write more!

(Now speculation is rife - Iasen was 'put to stud' - one of the tolerant barbarian girls...OR EVEN BETTER, oh what a perfect revenge - one of the abandoned completely immune/possibly vixen-eyed girls - and under orders: "perform or suffer the consequences!!! = and there is a female result.)

You know, considering your ruminations on fanfic, this world milieu will probably spawn its emulators. It really is well defined.

Seems to me a lot of the editing has been done, as you go along, with the comments.

I'm trying to read through slowly, again -- found a missing word in chapter 3 or so! -- and am currently on... 9. I'm easily distracted at the moment, *sigh*

Shush with the spoilers. (Though, if you're speculating on that train... Um, please tell me where some of my text wasn't clear in the epilogues.)

Oh, I realize the Princeps would like to ally the immune gene with his line again, but I was just thinking, what a PERFECT revenge it would be if he HAD to impregnate an immune barbarian girl, as a way of bringing more immunes loyal to the Cym-pire (as opposed to the Old Empire) along. Heh, heh, heh.
